Bankruptcies were up for the second consecutive month for the first time in two years since July 2020
There were 544 bankruptcies, marking the second consecutive month of year-on-year.

The number of bankruptcies came to 544 (537 in the same month of the previous year, up 1.3%), continuing on from last month with a year-on-year increase; bankruptcies increased for the second consecutive month for the first time in about two years since July 2020.
Total liabilities amounted to 1,283,908 million yen (72,583 million yen in the same month of the previous year). Due to the effect of the bankruptcy of Marelli Holdings Co., Ltd. (Saitama Prefecture, Civil Rehabilitation, total liabilities of 1,185,626 million yen), which was the largest legal restructuring in the history of automobile parts manufacturing, liabilities came to over 1 trillion yen for the first time in five years since Takata Corporation went bankrupt in June 2017.
Highlight and Outstanding Feature
- ■By industry, the number of bankruptcies increased year-on-year in five of seven industries. In the service industry (to 135 bankruptcies from 118 in the same month of the previous year), bankruptcies increased for the fourth consecutive month. On the other hand, they fell in the wholesale industry (to 66 bankruptcies from 74) and the retail industry (to 99 from 128).
- ■In terms of primary cause, recession-induced bankruptcies numbered 430, comprising 79.1%.
- ■By business history, the number of bankruptcies of companies that had a business history of "30 years or more" was the highest, and the number of bankruptcies of start-up companies with a business history of less than 10 years is increasing.
- ■By region, five of nine regions experienced year-on-year increases. In Shikoku (to 2 bankruptcies from 15 in the same month of the previous year, down 86.7%), there was no bankruptcy other than in Ehime, and it marked the lowest figure in the past 40 years. Bankruptcy Information TOP
