Highlight and Outstanding Feature
- ■By industry, the number of bankruptcies decreased year-on-year in six of seven industries. Bankruptcies continue to decline in B2C industries such as the service industry (from 145 bankruptcies to 125, down 13.8% year-on-year) and the retail industry (from 134 bankruptcies to 89, down 33.6% year-on-year).
- ■In terms of primary cause, recession-induced bankruptcies numbered 363 (429 bankruptcies in the same month of the previous year, down 15.4% year-on-year), marking the sixth consecutive month of year-on-year decrease. They account for 77.6% (up 1.4 points year-on-year) of all bankruptcies.
- ■By size of liabilities, the proportion of medium-sized bankruptcies of companies owing 100 million yen or more but less than 1 billion yen increased for the fourth consecutive month.
- ■By region, six of nine regions experienced large double-digit year-on-year decreases. In the Kanto region (from 185 bankruptcies to 151, down 18.4% year-on-year), Tokyo saw the lowest figure in the past 40 years for November. On the other hand, in Tohoku (from 22 bankruptcies to 27, up 22.7% year-on-year) bankruptcies increased for the first time in 17 months since June 2020.
- ■There were 9 bankruptcies caused by a labor shortage (7 bankruptcies in the same month of the previous year, up 28.6% year-on-year), marking the second consecutive month of year-on-year increase.
- ■There were 44 bankruptcies caused by a difficulty in finding a successor (34 bankruptcies in the same month of the previous year, up 29.4% year-on-year), marking the second consecutive month of year-on-year increase.
- ■There were 21 post-moratorium bankruptcies (28 bankruptcies in the same month of the previous year, down 25.0% year-on-year), marking the second consecutive month of year-on-year decrease.
