- ■There were 747 bankruptcies (down 3.6% year-on-year), marking the second consecutive month of year-on-year decrease. Liabilities totaled 112,856 million yen (up 10.7% year-on-year), marking the third consecutive month of year-on-year increase.
- ■By industry, the number of bankruptcies decreased year-on-year in four of seven industries. Of these, two industries—the construction industry (125 bankruptcies, down 16.1% year-on-year) and the real estate industry (16 bankruptcies, down 51.5% year-on-year)—marked double digit year-on-year decreases. Meanwhile, the number of bankruptcies in three industries including the transport and communication industry (28 bankruptcies, up 47.4% year-on-year) marked year-on-year increases.
- ■In terms of primary cause, recession-induced bankruptcies numbered 603 (down 4.7% year-on-year), lower than the same month of the previous year for the ninth consecutive month. They accounted for 80.7% (down 1.0 points year-on-year) of all bankruptcies.
- ■In terms of scale, bankruptcies totaling less than 50 million yen numbered 452 (down 5.2% year-on-year). These made up 60.5% of all bankruptcies, and the trend in which small-scale bankruptcies account for the majority continued. By capitalization, the number of bankruptcies with capital of less than 10 million yen (including self-operated companies) came to 489, accounting for 65.5% of all bankruptcies.
- ■By region, three of nine regions experienced year-on-year declines. Of these, two regions, Hokkaido (12 bankruptcies, down 40.0% year-on-year) and Kanto (256 bankruptcies, down 10.5% year-on-year) marked double digit year-on-year decreases. Also, bankruptcies in Kinki (197 bankruptcies, down 2.0% year-on-year) fell year-on-year for the sixth consecutive month. On the other hand, five regions including Kyushu (61 bankruptcies, up 5.2% year-on-year) saw the number of bankruptcies rise compared with the same month of the previous year, while in Chubu (109 bankruptcies) the number stayed the same year-on-year.
- ■The largest amount of liabilities was 25,349.33 million yen posted by M-Tec Co., Ltd. (Tokyo, Civil Rehabilitation Act ? discontinuance of bankruptcy procedure).
