- ■There were 588 bankruptcies (down 9.3% year-on-year), marking the first year-on-year decrease in two months and the lowest figure this year. Liabilities totaled 186,762 million yen (up 78.9% year-on-year), marking the second consecutive month of year-on-year increase.
- ■By industry, the number of bankruptcies decreased year-on-year in six of seven industries. Among them, the construction industry (98 bankruptcies, down 18.3% year-on-year) saw the lowest figure since 2000. In addition, bankruptcies in the transport and communication industry (24 bankruptcies, down 20.0% year-on-year) fell year-on-year for the fourth consecutive month. However, the wholesale industry (93 bankruptcies, up 5.7% year-on-year) was the only one marking year-on-year increase.
- ■In terms of primary cause, recession-induced bankruptcies numbered 443 (down 15.9% year-on-year), lower than the same month of the previous year for the eighth consecutive month. They accounted for 75.3% (down 6.0 points year-on-year) of all bankruptcies.
- ■In terms of scale, bankruptcies totaling less than 50 million yen numbered 358 (down 7.0% year-on-year). These made up 60.9% of all bankruptcies, and the trend in which small-scale bankruptcies account for the majority continued. By capitalization, the number of bankruptcies with capital of less than 10 million yen (including self-operated companies) came to 390, accounting for 66.3% of all bankruptcies.
- ■By region, four of nine regions experienced year-on-year declines. Of these, Kinki (120 bankruptcies, down 34.4% year-on-year) saw a year-on-year decrease for the fifth consecutive month, while for Kyushu (33, down 21.4% year-on-year) the number fell for the first time in seven months, and Hokkaido (15, down 34.8% year-on-year) and Chubu (91, down 15.0% year-on-year) saw year-on-year decreases for the first time in two months. However, three regions, including Chugoku (27 bankruptcies, up 50.0% year-on-year), marked year-on-year increases.
- ■The largest amount of liabilities was posted by Kefir, Inc. (Tokyo, bankruptcy) with liabilities of 100,194 million yen.
