- ■There were 677 bankruptcies (up 1.7% year-on-year), marking a year-on-year increase for the first time in seven months. Liabilities totaled 112,929 million yen (up 27.2% year-on-year), marking a year-on-year increase for the first time in five months.
- ■By industry, the number of bankruptcies increased year on year in three of seven industries. Of these, the two industries of the wholesale industry (98 bankruptcies, up 22.5% year-on-year) and real estate industry (32 bankruptcies, up 100.0% year-on-year) recorded large increases. On the other hand, three industries including the construction industry (125 bankruptcies, down 4.6% year-on-year) saw the number of bankruptcies fall compared with the same month of the previous year, and the number in the manufacturing industry (78 bankruptcies) stayed the same year-on-year.
- ■In terms of primary cause, recession-induced bankruptcies numbered 533 (down 0.7% year-on-year), lower than the same month of the previous year for the seventh consecutive month. They accounted for 78.7% (down 1.9 points year-on-year) of all bankruptcies.
- ■In terms of scale, bankruptcies totaling less than 50 million yen numbered 396 (down 9.8% year-on-year). These made up 58.5% of all bankruptcies, and the trend in which small-scale bankruptcies account for the majority continued. By capitalization, the number of bankruptcies with capital of less than 10 million yen (including self-operated companies) came to 438, accounting for 64.7% of all bankruptcies.
- ■By region, six of nine regions experienced year-on-year increases. Of these, two regions, Hokkaido (17 bankruptcies, up 54.5% year-on-year) and Chugoku (39 bankruptcies, up 50.0% year-on-year) marked large year-on-year increases of 50% or more. Also, bankruptcies in Kyushu (50 bankruptcies, up 13.6% year-on-year) increased year-on-year for the sixth consecutive month. On the other hand, two regions including Kanto (229 bankruptcies, down 9.5% year-on-year) saw the number of bankruptcies fall compared with the same month of the previous year, while in Shikoku (9 bankruptcies) the number stayed the same year-on-year.
- ■The largest amount of liabilities was posted by JAPAN ICOM Co., Ltd. (Hiroshima, Civil Rehabilitation Act) with liabilities of 11,687 million yen.
