- ■There were 618 bankruptcies (down 4.9% year-on-year), marking the third consecutive month of year-on-year decrease. Liabilities totaled 82,770 million yen (down 9.6% year-on-year), the first year-on-year decrease in two months. This falls below the 88,746 million yen of February 2018, marking the lowest value since 2000.
- ■By industry, the number of bankruptcies decreased year-on-year in six of seven industries. Of these, three industries—the construction industry (102 bankruptcies, down 12.1% year-on-year), the transport and communication industry (17 bankruptcies, down 26.1%), and the real estate industry (13 bankruptcies, down 13.3%)—marked double digit year-on-year decreases.
- ■In terms of primary cause, recession-induced bankruptcies numbered 497 (down 6.8% year-on-year), marking the third consecutive month of year-on-year decrease. They accounted for 80.4% (down 1.6 points year-on-year) of all bankruptcies.
- ■In terms of scale, bankruptcies totaling less than 50 million yen numbered 381 (up 3.8% year-on-year). They accounted for 61.7% of all bankruptcies, and as ever the trend in which small-scale bankruptcies account for the majority continued. By capitalization, the number of bankruptcies with capital of less than 10 million yen (including self-operated companies) came to 403, accounting for 65.2% of all bankruptcies.
- ■By region, four of nine regions experienced year-on-year declines. Of these, Hokkaido (14 bankruptcies, down 36.4% year-on-year) saw a year-on-year decrease for the fifth consecutive month, while Kanto (219 bankruptcies, down 18.3% year-on-year) did for the third consecutive month. Of these, Tokyo (117 bankruptcies) showed a significant year-on-year decrease of 26.4%, pushing down the number overall.
- ■The largest amount of liabilities was posted by Kutsuki Golf Club Co., Ltd. (Shiga, Civil Rehabilitation Act) with liabilities of 7,732 million yen.
