- ■There were 596 bankruptcies (down 10.2% year-on-year), the first such decrease in three months, and falling below 600 cases for the first time in 1 year and 1 month, since January 2017 (591 bankruptcies). Liabilities totaled 88,746 million yen (down 23.4% year-on-year), marking the fifth consecutive month of year-on-year decrease, and it was the lowest figure since 2000.
- ■By industry, the number of bankruptcies decreased year-on-year in five of seven industries. Among them, the manufacturing industry (57 bankruptcies, down 31.3% year-on-year) saw fewer cases than the 68 recorded in November 2017, marking the lowest figure since 2000. In addition, the number of bankruptcies fell year-on-year for the third consecutive month in the construction industry (110 bankruptcies, down 5.2% year-on-year), and those in the retail industry (127 bankruptcies, down 14.2% year-on-year) fell year-on-year for the second consecutive month.
- ■In terms of primary cause, recession-induced bankruptcies numbered 486 (down 8.3% year-on-year), marking the first year-on-year decrease in six months. Accompanying the decline in total number of bankruptcies, the composition ratio increased by 1.7 points year-on-year to 81.5%.
- ■In terms of scale, bankruptcies totaling less than 50 million yen numbered 383 (same figure as in the same month of the previous year). These made up 64.3% of all bankruptcies, and as ever the trend in which small-scale bankruptcies account for the majority continued. By capitalization, the number of bankruptcies with capital of less than 10 million yen (including self-operated companies) came to 367, accounting for 61.6% of all bankruptcies.
- ■By region, three of nine regions all saw the number of bankruptcies significantly decrease by more than 20% compared with the same month of the previous year. Among them, the figure for Kanto (175 bankruptcies) fell below 200 for the first time in 13 years since February 2005 (199 bankruptcies), pushing down the total number. In addition, the figure for Kyushu (29 bankruptcies) fell below the 31 cases posted in January 2000, and marked the smallest number since 2000.
- ■The largest amount of liabilities was posted by Tsubasa System Co., Ltd. (Tokyo, bankruptcy) with liabilities of 15,167 million yen.
