- ■There were 666 bankruptcies, marking a decrease of 4.6% compared with the previous month, and down by 3.2% year-on-year, the second consecutive month of such decrease. Liabilities totaled 88,754 million yen, down 13.6% from the previous month and down 32.6% compared with the same month of the previous year, the second consecutive month of such decrease and the lowest value recorded since 2000.
- ■By industry, the number of bankruptcies decreased year-on-year in five of seven industries. There was a large year-on-year decrease of 32.8% in the wholesale industry (80 bankruptcies), and also two-digit falls in year-on-year percentages regarding bankruptcies in the construction industry (131 bankruptcies, down 14.9% year-on-year), the manufacturing industry (78 bankruptcies, down 10.3%), and the real estate industry (16 bankruptcies, down 20.0%). On the other hand, the retail industry (157 bankruptcies, up 12.9% year-on-year) and the service industry (160 bankruptcies, up 24.0%) saw year-on-year increases.
- ■In terms of primary cause, recession-induced bankruptcies numbered 537 (down 5.8% year-on-year), lower than the same month of the previous year for the third consecutive month. They accounted for 80.6% (down 2.2 points year-on-year) of all bankruptcies.
- ■In terms of scale, bankruptcies totaling less than 50 million yen numbered 439 and comprised 65.9% of the total. The composition ratio exceeded the 62.1% posted in January 2017, and was the highest recorded since 2000. By capitalization, the number of bankruptcies with capital of less than 10 million yen (including self-operated companies) came to 435, exceeding the same month of the previous year for the fourth consecutive month.
- ■By region, five regions including Hokkaido and Kanto experienced year-on-year declines. On the other hand, in Tohoku the figure exceeded the same month of the previous year for the third consecutive month while it did so for the fourth consecutive month in Kinki. The number of bankruptcies fell in Aichi and rose in Tokyo and Osaka.
- ■There were no bankruptcies of listed companies.
- ■The largest amount of liabilities was posted by ATT Co., Ltd. (Tokyo, bankruptcy) with liabilities of 8,998 million yen.
