- ■There were 591 bankruptcies, marking a year-on-year decrease of 12.8% and a decrease of 9.6% from the previous month. This was the fourth consecutive month of year-on-year decline. This marked the first time in 11 years and 10 months, since March 2005 (584 bankruptcies), that the number remained in the 500 to 599 range. Liabilities totaled 114,400 million yen, a decrease of 33.2% from the previous month and down 14.0% compared with the same month of the previous year. This was the second consecutive month of year-on-year decline.
- ■By industry, the number of bankruptcies decreased year-on-year in five of seven industries. Of these, in the construction industry, the number of bankruptcies was lower than the same month of the previous year for the fourth consecutive month; and in the real estate industry, it was lower than the same month of the previous year for the third consecutive month. In addition, the manufacturing industry recorded the lowest number since 2000. In the transport and communication industry, meanwhile, the number of bankruptcies increased for the third consecutive month, compared to the same month of the previous year. And in the retail industry the number of bankruptcies exceeded the same month of the previous year for the first time in two months.
- ■By industry, the number of bankruptcies decreased year-on-year in five of seven industries. Among them, compared with the same month of the previous year, bankruptcies in the construction industry (128, down 0.8% from the previous year) decreased for the third consecutive month, and those in the real estate industry (20, down 33.3%) fell for the second consecutive month. In addition, bankruptcies in the service industry (137, down 8.1%) dropped below the same month of the previous year for the first time in four months.
- ■In terms of primary cause, recession-induced bankruptcies numbered 485 (down 12.3% year-on-year), lower than the same month of the previous year for the fourth consecutive month. They accounted for 82.1% (up 0.5 points) of all bankruptcies.
- ■In terms of scale, bankruptcies totaling less than 50 million yen numbered 367 (down 4.9% year-on-year). These made up 62.1% of all bankruptcies, which was the highest level since 2000, and small-scale bankruptcies continued to account for the majority. By capitalization, the number of bankruptcies with capital of less than 10 million yen (including self-operated companies) came to 352, accounting for 59.6% of all bankruptcies.
- ■There were no bankruptcies of listed companies.
- ■The largest amount of liabilities was posted by Gendai Co., Ltd. (Okayama, Civil Rehabilitation Act) with liabilities of 10,516 million yen.
