Highlight and Outstanding Feature
- ■There were 708 bankruptcies, marking a year-on-year decrease of 5.2% and the fifth consecutive month of such decrease. Liabilities totaled 127,897 million yen, marking an increase of 25.0% over the previous month and a year-on-year increase of 3.0%; this was the first year-on-year increase in seven months. Both number of bankruptcies and liabilities marked the third lowest values for July since 2000.
- ■By industry, the number of bankruptcies decreased year-on-year in all seven industries. Of these, the transport and telecommunication industry and the construction industry marked large double-digit decreases. Additionally, the manufacturing industry, wholesale industry, construction industry, and service industry marked year on year decreases for the seventh, sixth, second, and second consecutive month, respectively.
- ■In terms of primary cause, recession-induced bankruptcies numbered 578, down 10.5% year-on-year.
- ■Bankruptcies totaling less than 50 million yen numbered 414 (down 4.4% year-on-year) and comprised 58.5% of the total (up 1.9%), marking the fifth consecutive month of year-on-year decrease. By capitalization, those individually managed or with capital of 10 million yen or fewer numbered 420 (down 4.8% year-on-year), comprising 59.3% of the total.
- ■By region, four regions experienced year-on-year declines, including Shikoku (8 bankruptcies, down 33.3%), Hokkaido (23 bankruptcies, down 25.8%), Kinki (159 bankruptcies, down 18.9%), and Kanto (261 bankruptcies, down 13.9%).
- ■There were no bankruptcies of listed companies.
- ■The largest amount of liabilities was posted by Yamanashi Prefecture Forestry Public Corporation (Yamanashi, Civil Rehabilitation Act), with liabilities of 26,044 million yen). Following behind were Hamadori Passenger Transport Co, Ltd. (formerly Joban Transport Motors Co., Ltd., Fukushima Prefecture, special liquidation) with 6,890 million yen) and Saitama Welfare Farming Cooperative Association (Saitama, bankruptcy) with 6,533 million yen.
