Highlight and Outstanding Feature
- ■There were 747 bankruptcies, marking a year-on-year decrease of 4.1% and an increase of 14.6% from the previous month. This was the fourth consecutive month of year-on-year decline. Liabilities totaled 102,330 million yen, marking a 10.8% year-on-year decrease and decrease of 3.5% from the previous month; this was the sixth consecutive month of decrease and the lowest amount for June since 2000.
- ■By industry, the number of bankruptcies decreased year-on-year in four of seven industries. Of these, the manufacturing industry (94 bankruptcies, down 27.7% year-on-year) marked a large double digit decrease and the sixth consecutive months of year-on-year decrease. However, the transport and communication industry (26 bankruptcies, up 13.0%) and the retail industry (168, up 6.3%) marked their first increases in four months, and the real estate industry (22 bankruptcies, up 22.2%) marked the first year-on-year increase in two months.
- ■In terms of primary cause, recession-induced bankruptcies numbered 633, down 1.7% year-on-year.
- ■Bankruptcies totaling less than 50 million yen numbered 429 (down 6.9% year-on-year), marking the fourth consecutive month of year-on-year decrease. By capitalization, the sum of bankruptcies of self-operated companies and those with capital of less than 10 million yen numbered 472 (up 3.1%) and comprised 63.2% of the total.
- ■By region, seven of nine regions experienced year-on-year declines, including Shikoku (10 bankruptcies, down 33.3%) and Tohoku (27 bankruptcies, down 6.9%). Additionally, Chubu (113 bankruptcies, down 5.8%) and Kinki (197, down 3.0%) marked the fourth consecutive month of year-on-year decrease. However, Hokuriku (25 bankruptcies, up 66.7%) marked a year-on-year increase.
- ■There were no bankruptcies of listed companies.
- ■The largest amount of liabilities was posted by Yamai Co., Inc. (Kumamoto, Civil Rehabilitation Act) with liabilities of 7,100 million yen.
